A craniotomy is the removal of a brain tumor by making an opening in the skull.
The surgeon attempts to completely remove the tumor. If the entire tumor cannot be removed without damaging vital brain tissue, your doctor may remove as much of the tumor as possible.
Patients resume normal activities within a few days, and often return to work about four to six weeks after surgery.
Some patients recover well after brain surgery, but this may take some time. Others have some problems or long-term difficulties.
The problems you may experience depend on which area of the brain the tumor was in (or is still there if you had only part of the tumor removed).
